How to Choose the Right eBay Online Store Option

from: Home Biz Advisor

Sellers looking to open an online store at eBay have a variety of options to choose from based on sellers' goals and inventories. Before deciding which store option works best, make a game plan based on the following information: monthly number of items planned listed, amount budgeted to operate store and amount of time dedicated to operating the store. Be sure to take into consideration all fees required and build then into a budget. When satisfied, it's time to being exploring store options:

First, potential storeowners have to be qualified to open an eBay store. This requires having a verified Premium PayPal account. To have a PayPal account verified, it must be linked with a bank account and go through the verification process. The next requirement for potential eBay storeowners is to have a seller's account with at least 20 feedbacks or have the ID verify feature. A valid credit card must also be registered with the eBay seller's account. While waiting for this process, sellers may wish to list items as regular eBay sellers to build-up positive feedback ratings.

If looking to sell less than ten items per month, an eBay store probably isn't the best option. Stores were designed for sellers looking to list at least ten items for sale a month, minimum. The Basic Store is the lowest-priced eBay store; starting at $15.95 a month. It includes five pages and allows for the management of 250 items per day. Online businesses starting out should consider investing in a Basic eBay Store.

For more established businesses or those looking to sell in higher volumes, the next option is the Premium Store. This store costs $49.95 a month and is designed for sellers who sell at least 50 items a month. The Premium Store includes ten pages and allows for the management of 2,500 listings a day. The one difference between the Basic and Premium Stores is the customer service support. Basic customers only have included customer support between the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time; where as Premium customers have 24/7 customer support.

The most successful of sellers can opt for eBay's Anchor Store. At a cost of $299.95 a month, this store includes 15 pages and the option to manage 5,000 listings per day. Both the Premium and Anchor Stores also include advanced traffic statistics to help log customer activity and item movement. All stores include email-marketing capabilities with the Basic Store allowing 5,000 emails a month sent, the Premium Store allowing 7,500 emails a month sent and the Anchor Store allowing 10,000 emails a month sent.

Take into consideration additional fees including any listing, final value and PayPal transaction fees when deciding on a storefront budget. If unsure which store is a good choice; start small and if successful, upgrade when comfortable. By going with a lower-priced plan your online eBay store will have some time to develop; and through dedicated marketing efforts, become successful. Be careful not to make any decisions based on one month's performance though: as all businesses have both good and bad months.
