Dealing With Internet Frauds

from: Home Biz Advisor

Tips to identify frauds and successfully avoid them:

* Be cautious about emails offering exceptionally high returns.

* Get all information in writing before you decide and don't just go by verbal assurances as detailed in the mail. Better to sign a contract.

* Get all information about the contacting person like his name, addresses, and phone numbers of people involved.

* Investigate all earnings claims which the company makes.

* Do some independent research about the company offering the service.

* Don't be pressured. Demands that you act immediately are danger signs of fraud.

* Get professional advice and review the contract with an attorney, and ask an accountant to look over the finances.

* Know exactly what services are being offered by the company as some fraudulent companies simply sell lists of companies that they have gotten from public directories, doing related jobs and services without having any contact with them.

* Document all promises and print out the information so you can prove what you were promised.

* Reveal your personal details like bank account number, social security number only on secured websites after ascertaining the genuiness of the company.

* Money-back guarantees if provided on paper has no legal binding and hence worthless.

* Fraudulent services will never give you a refund, as they use an endless string of excuses for why you're not entitled to it.

* Never download programs from websites which are uncertified as these downloads may contain viruses which could wipe out your computer files. Scan with a good antivirus software before you agree to download any from the offering website. Remember it's also possible that a dialer program or a spyware could be downloaded by just clicking on a hyperlink.

* Be cautious about emails offering information on sleazy entertainment services.

* Read the user agreement carefully as there may be important information buried in the agreement about costs or other aspects of the program.

* If in a company, restrict the people who know the password to go online with your computer.

* Increase the amount of time a site is kept in your browser history file. Usually a site is erased from the history folder after 20 days, but it may take longer for you to discover that you've been victimized. Increase the time to 45 days.
